"C" door & window company window

Home Owner from Pennsylvania
Recently the upper sash of one of the windows in my home was cracked clear thru from side to side, and I've been having a GREAT deal of trouble replacing it...

The year before I bought my home all of its windows were replaced with windows bought from 84 Lumber in York, PA, and that location has since gone out of business. I took a picture of the sticker located within the window's frame and emailed it two other nearby 84 Lumber locations, and they were unable to find the window's manufacturer because I'm guessing it, too, has gone out of business. Apparently the purchase order systems between all their stores are not linked, and their records are not saved after one year, so neither location was of any help.

While I was placing an order on your site earlier this week I saw how knowledgeable and helpful you guys were about windows. I know it's a longshot, but I was hoping that maybe you may remember this window company, or can offer me some suggestions about how/where to replace this sash? Attached please find a photo of the black and white window sticker. The first line reads "C (and about five spaces) Door & Window Company", which I'm guessing is the manufacturer. The windows were purchased around 1998 or just before, and are white, vinyl, tilt-in, double hung replacement windows without grids.

Thank you SO MUCH for your time and help!

Hey, Melissa. We will certainly try our best to help you track this sash down.

The sticker you show us doesn't appear to have any manufacturer information. I would check around the inside frame for a metallic gold colored "AAMA" sticker. Nine times out of ten, these stickers have a little code that we can use to reference who made the window.

If you don't have one, I'd like you to take some pictures of the specific hardware that the window uses. Things like the tilt latches, locks, balances, really any moving piece you can find. A picture of the whole window itself would also help. Now, most windows use generic off-brand hardware, but with any luck your window will have something specific that will give us a clue.

Hi Tom,

We are having the same problem as Melissa. We bought our home and the window's balance is broken. The bottom clip needs replacing. Attached please find photos that you requested to identify how/where we can get replacement parts.

Thank you so much for your help. If you need information, please let me know.

Hey, Joe, thanks for getting back to us with these pictures. They're a huge help. Based on the shoe I see in your second photo, I think there's a good chance you have our Series 775 channel balance. This has a 9/16" wide plain channel, which means that it's just a flat rectangle without and ribs or indentations, and it uses that same "boat" shaped shoe.

We used to sell that shoe separately but I'm afraid that's no longer possible. We can only provide a complete balance. That said, it's usually a good idea to replace the whole balance anyway. When the shoes start breaking then it's a sign the balance isn't far behind.

Hopefully this information helps. Let me know if you have any questions. That's a beautiful window setup, by the way.

Thank you!! We also have the same sticker and the balances/clips are also broke on most of our windows. Did you have any luck with replacing the balances as recommended above! Either way glad to have somewhere to start!!
