Hey David. Start by looking at our 38-036. The body is a little different, but the latch design is very similar. Please compare and see what you think.

When I measure the handle the base is 3" long. Are they measuring the screw hole placement or what is the 2 1/2 inches referring to. If that is the case then I guess mine would be 2 1/2

Yes, the 2-1/2" is the hole spacing, or the distance between the center of each mounting hole. See the image below.

are the screws used self tapping or r they threaded

We suggest using the 38-036 Fasteners to install the lock, sold separately.
