Can the 40-049 replace the lockset in a HIMCO security screen door?

Quick Learner from 91311
Hello

Live in L.A. A local storm/security door maker (HIMCO) seemed to use what looked like custom locksets (HIMCO stamped on faceplate). Functionally, it looks the same as the 40-049 (mortised handle and deadbolt set). But the faceplate length and mounting screw locations differ. I don't see the bolts dimensioned in your pictures, so I couldn't compare size/position.

I measure the following -

Faceplate - 8 3/8 long X 13/16 in width

3/8 in countersunk mounting holes center to center - 7 5/8in (located 7/32 from top/bottom of faceplate)

Back-sets - deadbolt - 1 1/8 in, handle bolt 1 in

Key Cylinder length - 2 3/8 in

Spindle - 11/32 in

Hoping you're familiar with HIMCO doors and can suggest a replacement lockset.

I had to cut the deadbolt and have been unable to remove the thumbscrew to remove the lockset to assess whether there is flexibility in the mounting hole locations. The thumbscrew just turns freely and seems to have either a very small pin or allen screw that runs all the way through the neck of the thumbscrew. Can you advise how I can remove the old HIMCO lockset to make further assessments of the fit and required mounting?

To remove that key cylinder you need to remove the screw in the face plate at the edge of the door. That screw should be the second one up from the bottom; it should be the one holding the key cylinder in place. Looking at your handle set and comparing the measurements with the 40-049 I'm not sure you will be able to get it to fit your door, unfortunately. I believe we carried something like your handle set at one point, but it was discontinued and is no longer available. Apologies for any inconvenience.

The 40-049 that we recommended before remains our best option at this time, though unfortunately it's not a guarantee. Some handiwork may be required for it to install properly. You may want the assistance of a local professional.
