Hello,
Having trouble finding proper coil balances for Simonton windows.
Windows are standard 36"x60" windows marked: Simonton Window 9904161120, D0349 4/16/99, 2370629/01, UNIT: 35.5000 59.5000, G1 31.5625. 27.0625, OMSH.
Old coil balances are marked 5.5#, 39" A PAT E523208, but measure ~64" long stretched out (2 on each side). I've tried your S-160, 5.5#, 35", assuming the spring was only 4" shorter with disastrous results when I mounted the coil supports down 4" and the springs busted out of the supports, breaking the supports and bending the new coil balances! I had to mount the broken pieces of the coil supports down ~20" lower than their original location to make your 35" coils function (somewhat).
Now, we have to be very careful to pull in tilt latches when lowering the windows because they catch on the top of the coil supports! Pics attached. As common as this window is (400+ homes in my subdivision alone), you'd think you would carry a common coil balance to replace them.
My springs are similar to your #S160 springs. I've ordered the 5.5 lb. S160 springs in the past, but the big problem is your spring is only about 38" end to end, and mine are 64" end to end! A 26" DIFFERENCE IN LENGTH! My pictures are of one of my original springs next to one of your #S160 springs. The difference in length is obvious. The other picture shows the location of the original coil support (Left of picture, or top of window frame), second set of mounting holes that I drilled, 4 " lower due to your springs being labeled 35" and mine labeled 39", and lastly, where I finally had to mount the coil support to use your S160 coil springs.
What I need are S160 coil springs that are 5.5 lb with ~ 60" of travel!
