Can't lock the door without the key in

Quick Learner from California

We just installed this lock (82-081) about a week or so ago to our patio sliding door however once installed we were unable to use the interior lock mechanisms unless the key was engaged in the lock as well. We uninstalled it the other day since it wasn't practical having a lock that was only able to be closed from the outside.

Is it typical after installing this type of lock to have the interior door lock capabilities function as well? And if so how to install it so that is able to happen?

It sounds like the key cylinder and the inside turn lever are out of "sync". This is honestly fairly common, and it even happens to me on occasion. They can be a little temperamental, and even being slightly askew during installation will cause this problem. Try installing the handle set again with the key and tail in the same direction.
