Caradco Sliding patio door complete lockset and with multiple latches

Handy Person from Uniontown Ohio

The door latch handle is stuck n the open position and I cannot move the handle in any directions. The door was installed in 2000 as part of a complete home Caradco windows and doors replacements.

I took the whole unit inside the door jam out and found that several small aluminum parts inside the lockset were broken. Of course I am unable to reassemble the lockset.

The dimensions of the latching mechanism are as follows: Here are 4 latches inside the door edge. The flat steel part is approx 76" long. There are 14 screws that hold the part into the door: Starting at the bottom the holes are at 2 5/8"; 6 1/2, 10 3/8, 13 3/4, 19 5/8, 25 7/8, 25 7/8, 29, 31, 39 1/2, 46 3/4, 54, 57 5/8, 61, 64, 69, 74. the latches are 1) between 10 3/8 & 13 3/4; 2) between 25 7/8 & 29; 3) 39 /12 & 46 3/4; 4) 54 & 57 5/8. The lockset is between 29 & 31.

Although the handles are ok I would like to replace them. The set is a brush brass (not bright).

I was unable to use your camera to take the photo using my laptop. However I can send several text photos from my Android Smart Phone if you want to send me a number to send it to.

Currently using a hastily made stick in the door channel.

Thanks. Pete

Hi, Pete.

Before we get started, can you show us some pictures of the handle set in question? As for the mortise lock, I know you said it is broken, but can you shoe us some pictures of the cut out in your door? That might help give us a hint.

You can also email your photos to help@swisco.com with reference number D231728.

Thank you!
