Casement Operator Install Question

In replacing the operator I found two of the screw holes don't line exactly (previous operator was a double arm), and for some reason there is a gap in the sill too close to two of the attachment screw holes (see attached pic).
The new operator is installed and works but is attached by only 3 of the five holes - one center and one on the inner part of each end.
The two screws on the outside edge, under the "gears", can't be drilled unless I seal the gap with a shim glued into the blank space.
- do you think the 3 screws are sufficient? It feels pretty solid.

Hey there,

Thanks for writing in! Since you've confirmed the previous operator had two arms, I do not believe this is the correct replacement for your hardware. This is likely the reason you are experiencing the issue with a gap in the sill.

It would be helpful to see the original operator from the window so that we can better assist you on repairing the window.

Please let me know if you have any other questions in the meantime.

The previous operator was modified (by prev owner of condo) as was the window. The window used to open vertically and had a double arm operator. The window was modified to open horizontally - from the left if you are facing out - so the gear for the right arm was removed, I assume as it has no gear see pic). Only the left arm had a gear that opened and closed the window by pushing and pulling on the left side. The right arm wasn't connected to the window.
The mechanism that connected the arm to the window slid in a
track but it broke off and was lost.
I'm trying to replace it. I don't want to buy a double armed unit as I don't know how the right gear was removed, but maybe I'm wrong and there is a double arm replacement with gearing only on the left.

Thanks for the photos and for the explanation. Unfortunately, we would not be able to give a recommendation for an operator different from the one in your window, especially since it was modified for use with this operating mechanism.

The base of your operator appears to be the 39-462 EntryGard Awning Operator. The gear from your operator has not been removed at all, that is simply how it is designed. To confirm that this is the correct replacement, be sure to carefully review and compare the dimensions.

This operator uses the 36-078 Shoe Stud which is slides in the 36-078C 30-3/4" Awning Operator Track.

I think I see now. I already have the operator, all I need is the shoe stud, the track, and a fastener (I ordered two).
