Casement Tubular Seals

Question

I'm trying to fix these leaky casement windows for a customer. It has two perimeter seals that are about 1/4" wide, tubular in shape, and welded in the corners. I can't tell if the seals have worn out (gone flat), or if the windows were just never properly installed. Are replacement seals available for this window? Are they available in a bigger size that would fill the existing 1/16" gap in some places? Thanks!

Hello! Thanks so much for submitting your inquiry. Sounds like you need new weatherstripping.

We sell an absolute ton of different styles, but it's unfortunately not possible to identify what you have based on these photos. This service requires a clear photo of the seal out of the window and shown from an angle that displays the end profile. The video below will clarify what I mean.

You did mention that the edges are welded, which is going to make this task difficult. Basically whoever made the window didn't expect anyone would need to repair it. As such you need to make your own openings in the frame to remove the seal. We have another video on that, which I'll also share. This happens quite often and is an unfortunate necessity for this kind of job.

These are going to be a necessary steps. I know it's a hassle, but there's not an easier way to identify the seal on this kind of window. An end profile view is necessary at minimum.

Once we see the seal, we can give you some options that will match its profile and size, and furthermore look into whether there's anything a little bigger. Sometimes there, is sometimes there isn't. In all likelihood the old seal is just old and over compressed from age and use.
