Casement window hinge replacement/ old hardware Interlock / Roto operator

Professional from Hawaii

Aloha from Hawaii,

I am helping my friend replace casement window hardware on four windows in his garage. The windows are 3'0 x 3'0 single pane. He purchased hardware from your company. The order was #1418406. He purchased four 2 bar hinge sets. Part #36-004-10

I am a retired elevator mechanic. So I was able to do the work. I was able to get the window working with a couple of problems. As the window opens the edge of the window hits the track see pics. Also the window is sagging and does not close completely.  I have three questions.

#1 How do you calculate what length hinges you need to use. I am aware that some hinges are designed for egress. in our situation that is not an issue.

#2 How do I keep the edge of the window from contacting the frame.

#3 Would four bar hinges make a difference? I know that there are adjustable hinges that would help with the sagging.

I would like to return and reorder the parts we have if necessary. We are sooo close. I was able to hook up the operator and it works well. The window opens about 45 degrees before the edge impacts the track.

I'm actually not sure why you're running into issues. You have an old discontinued Roto hinge that they stopped making a few years ago. We use the 36-004-10 specifically to replace it all the time. It should have worked.

I'm going to forward this to my colleague Dave, who knows more about these than I do. He might be able to offer you some insight.

Looking at your photos, it looks like the new hinge hast o be installed closer to the operator base. I can see the original screw holes exposed in your photo. It does look like the old hinge base extended out a little, or was even possibly  shimmed to even out the base of the window frame. I sort of see a step leading to the outside of the sill frame. Could you use the original hinge shim to install the new style?
