Tom from SWISCO responded:

I think I know, yes. See our 39-340. This looks very close to the part in your pictures, but look over our dimensions and let me know what you think.

A contractor from Las Cruces, NM says:

Thank you so much! Now I have another challenge. this is, im guessing, a window balance but cannot find anywhere either or even know what its called.

it is coated in some type of felt not too sure what it is, but its a bit fuzzy.

Hope you can help!

Thank you,

Chayanne

Tom from SWISCO responded:

Ah, I know what this is. This is indeed a balance spring, but it isn't something we can replace. Unlike more modern balances, this is just a naked spring installed in the jamb liner. Functionally speaking, the jamb liner itself is the balance, which means the jamb liner is what has to be replaced. We can't do this for you, but a local mill work can.

A quick learner from Las Cruces, NM says:
Ok well thank you for all your help, one last question.
Would you happen to know what kind of windows this is for?
the brand name?

Tom from SWISCO responded:

I'm afraid I don't. This type of spring was used across many brands, so there's no way for me to tell. All I can tell you is that they're very old and made of wood.
