CertainTeed Window spring balance

A home owner from Hawaii says:
Several of my CentainTeed Window spring balances have broken. I had given up on finding a replacement until I found your website. In looking at your website the series S-180 2-hole springs look like a match for my broken spring, but I'm unsure about what weight to order. 6LA is stamped on my spring. Does this mean I need a 6 lb spring? Given the tendency for this spring to break, is there a better compatible spring you can recommend? Thanks in advance for your help.

Tom from SWISCO responded:

Your stamp may indicate our S180-6, yes. If you weigh your sash you can confirm with a little math. Basically, one S180-6 on each side would carry a 12 pound sash, two on each side would carry a 24 pound sash, etc. So if you weigh your sash and it matches that pattern then you should be good to go.

I'm afraid there is no stronger version. Coil balance manufacturers pretty much only make one type.
