CertainTeed double hung window coil balance assembly parts

Quick Learner from Moorpark CA

One of the coil balance springs in my CertainTeed double hung windows failed, and I need the parts to completely replace the assemblies on both sides. The pivot shoe and the coil springs are the only parts with numbers - A186160 for the pivot shoe, RA409 for the inner coil spring and LA407 for the outer coil spring.

Your part number 15-192 looks like a perfect match for the pivot shoe, part number S170-409 matches the inner spring, but your site recommends part number S171-407 for the outer spring with the longer tongue while my outer spring has the same tongue dimensions as the inner spring. Is there really a difference?

Your spring covers part number 15-156 appear to match by the dimensions shown, but the dimension of the pin/post is not listed - my existing part has a post 3/8" in diameter.

Finally, your part number 15-157 CertainTeed barrel bushing has the right dimensions, but doesn't have the flange that mine does. Is the flange necessary?

Hello there. The S171-407 has the longer tongue, the longer tongue makes it easier to install the top coil spring to reach the screw to the pivot shoe. The post diameter for the 15-156 is 3/8" to accept the 15-157 balance drum. The flange is not critical in the operation of the coil balance system. Finally, you don't need to replace everything on your coil spring system, just the broken pieces. The new parts are interchangeable with the old.
