Question

One of these broke, should I replace both? This one is 28 inches and the window is 36 inches wide.

Hi there, and thanks for contacting SWISCO! Looks like it matches either our S380 or S385 channel balances. The stamp indicates that the metal channel is 27" long, not 28". You may want to double check. Did you measure the nylon clips as well? It is important to measure just the metal channel. This will help confirm that it is either the S380-27 or S385-27, with the 2640 option.

The only difference between these two models is the 'depth' of the bottom nylon shoe. In the S385-25 the toe has a depth of 1-3/32", whereas in the S380-25 the depth is just 1". Compare those dimensions with the depth of yours to see what works best. If in doubt, the S385-25 is a safer bet, since if it proves to have a larger depth than what you needed you can always use sand paper to grind the 'toe' of the nylon shoe down a little.

To answer your last question, yes, it would be wise to replace both balances. Otherwise the older balance will be weaker compared to the new one, putting extra stress on the new balance.
