Channel Balance Shoe, Winged

Quick Learner from West Covina
I'm not absolutely sure if my channel balance is the S380-28 (2740), because it has hemmed edges a tension adjustment screw on bottom guide, and the 15-005 winged shoe I ordered just broke when I tried to push it in. Please help. Please also note there is no names, numbers, or markings anywhere on the existing channel balance.

I'm afraid that this manufacturer no longer makes balances with an adjusting screw or hemmed edges. However, our hardware should still work. In fact, I don't know why the 15-005 shoe broke on installation. Can you clarify how and when it broke? Was it when you installed the shoe on the metal channel or when you installed the balance in the window? Is it possible to see a picture of an undamaged version of the old shoe? Can you also give me the weight of your window sash? Thanks!

Thanks Paul for your quick response! I remember I posted on this site in 2011 with pictures as attached for your reference. The fact that the 15-005 shoe broke when I tried to push it in the metal channel is because of the hook of the adjustment screw. I just want your expert advice about a bottom guide that works with this type of window sash for future use. Fyi I already ordered two S380-28 anyway, because they fit well on my other window which I ordered from SWISCO in 2011 and installed myself with the help of the instruction video. Many thanks again for your help. This is a great and helpful site.

Ah, I see. In that case, you may have to replace the balances entirely. It sounds like you won't be able to simply repair the old balances. It may be for the best anyway. If the nylon attachments were breaking, it may be a sign that the springs were close to failing.
