Thanks for posting. We can certainly help you replace this balance; but first, could you show us more pictures of the nylon attachments at both ends of the metal channel? This will help us confirm the balance Series you have. Many thanks.

Thanks for the extra photos. See either our S351-29 or S390-29 Channel Balances. The only difference between these two balance Series is the 'depth' of the bottom nylon shoe. The Series 351 bottom nylon shoe has a depth of 1", whereas the Series 390 bottom nylon shoe has a depth of 1-1/8". Compare with your old balances and see what you think matches best.

Once you know which balance you'll need, you need to pick a stamp option. Your stamp of 28 3 confirms to our stamp option of 2830, for a window sash in the weight range of 16 through 23 lbs. Let us know if you have any other questions.

A quick learner from Bonita Springs, FLorida says:
The bottom nylon shoe is 1"depth and metal to metal not counting the plastic the channel metal measures 29"

It looks like I would need 2 series S351-29 to substitute for the Caldwell 28 3 DN. Can you confirm that the metal only would measure 29" The Caldwell stamp 28 seems misleading in that it is 29" of metal or 30" with the plastic ends included.

If the metal channel alone measures 29", and if the shoe has a 1" depth, then it is indeed the S351-29. The stamp of 28 3 actually does not refer to the length of the metal channel. Rather, the '28' refers to the height of the visible glass--though as a rule of thumb, this is often but not always 1" less than the metal channel length. The '3' refers to the strength of the spring within the channel balance. The spring in each channel balance is precisely calibrated to support a certain weight range. In the case of your channel balance, the stamp option 2830 is for a window sash in the weight range of 16 through 23 lbs.
