Channel balance jammed

Home Owner from nipomo ca
Just moved in here about 6 mos ago. The place is about 12 yrs old.
As you can see it appears the channel balance somehow became unhooked and is now stuck in the up position. I cannot raise the window to release it from the frame. everything is jammed up. The marking on the balance is 26 4 rk any solution to removing the old part and with what do I replace it?

It looks like you have a broken top sash guide. Because it is broken, this causes the balance to shoot up pass the window sash and prevents the sash from moving. See our video below on how to repair it. If you need help replacing the sash guides, we will need mugshot pictures (front and side profile) of the sash guide, as well as very precise dimensions. Check out our Sash Guide section for examples.

None of my windows appear to have top sash guides like the one you are showing in your video. They all look exactly like the zoomed in photo I attached.
My problem is that I cannot move the window without jeopardy of breaking the pane. Do I have to destroy the jammed sash in order to be able to raise the window?
It looks pretty simple to do the job, if only I could move the window and or channel balance. Thanks. Richard

Don't worry, your sash will be all right. Do you have a similar window that works? If so, does the sash tilt in? Can you remove this sash to see what type of balance you have? If you can show us, that will help us determine the problem.
