Charlie Bar Reversed Installation

A quick learner from Nashville, TN says:
Can the Charlie bar be installed upside down to where the bar will be hidden in the upper track when in the secure position?

Also, our door has the sliding door on the outside so it looks like we will need the L bracket installation.

I've never personally installed this bar lock upside down. To be honest, I wouldn't advise it. The 80-006 is made to rest in the shoe bracket with the locking key securing it. If the bar is installed upside down and you don't secure the key into the shoe properly, the security bar will drop out of the shoe, rendering it more or less useless.

As for the outside operating door, you will need to use the L bracket. I have installed the 80-006 using the L-bracket and found it not too difficult.
