Coil Balances for Tilt 48 lb. Window

Home Owner from Ormond Beach, FL
I have a 30H x 48W double hung impact window that the balances on the lower sash have broken. The weight of the window is 48 pounds. The springs are mangled, and some are broken. The spring housing is brittle and broken as well. There are 3 coils on each side of the sash. I could not find any makings indication the weight capacity of any of the coils. Will 2 sets of the Series 210 Roller Tilt Balances S210-24 (2 coil assembly) work for these windows or should I opt for 3 coils per side?

Or should I use some other arrangement. Please advise.

Hello,

Your pivot housing resembles the 15-087, which uses the  Series 180 coil springs, along with the other items under the related items section of the product page.

One thing to note is that a 48-pound window sash is rather heavy for this type of coil system. Your original coils should have numbers stamped on them to confirm the corresponding strength options. If you're confident about the weight of your sash, I believe you will need two S180-9 and one S180-4 on each side of your window to support a total of 48 pounds. Thank you.

Just to clarify, I re-weighed the window sash and came up with 48 pounds. You suggested two 9-pounds and one 4-pound spring for each side for the 48-pound window. This totals up to 44 pounds per window. Is this correct or should I be getting a 6 pound and two 9-pound springs for each side? Or does it really matter?

Good catch. I agree that two S180-9 coils and one S180-6 coil on each side would be the best combination for your sash weight.
