Coil Spring Replacement

Handy Person from Illinois
Hello, I am looking at needing to replace coil springs in 2 Certainteed windows (I believe they are Somerton, Single Hung Windows), I would estimate that the windows themselves are around 58.5" tall total and somewhere around 33" wide. They are fiberglass windows. Any idea on the weight/part that I would need for the coil springs? The current springs are rusted and stuck in the window, I was hoping to have the parts on hand before having to move the couch and other items out from the window to replace.

Thanks for reaching out to us! I am confident we can supply you with a replacement coil springs you need but to be able to determine exact which ones you have, I'd need to know either the stamps from the balance or the exact weight of the sash; the size of the window does not account for the weight of the glass. Unfortunately, this means you will need to remove the hardware before you can make your purchase.

It would also be a good idea to examine the other hardware compatible with the springs to see if it might need to be replaced as well. There is a chance the pivot shoe may need to be replaced and possibly the pivot bar.

Please feel free to reach out with any other questions you might have in the meantime.

Are there specific coils or types that could be based on the window itself? I'm not opposed to getting extra parts if it means not having to move things around and pull apart the window multiple times.

I could assume the series you would need for the coil balance replacement but it would not be a guarantee without seeing the parts. There also isn't any other way to figure the spring strength needed for the coils without the stamp/marking on the metal coil or the sash weight.

Since you need to obtain this information, it would be best to gather all of the information at once so that you would know everything you need to complete the repairs for the window upfront. Rather than going to install them and then having to wait for the additional parts.

I hope this helps to provide some clarity.
