Coil balance

Contractor from Mantua, Ohio

I need help determining which coil to purchase. I saw that it had a 7 stamped on it. I'm fairly sure that means 7 lbs of lift. The challenge with the other window is that the springs were removed by someone else. Do i just remove the sash, weigh it, and divide by 2 to get the size required? is it best to just get the complete assembly? Or, just the spring and install in the old pivot shoe?

Thanks for posting! Your pivot shoe appears to be the 15-087 coil housing pivot. To determine that these are the correct replacement, you'll need to compare the dimensions shown on the diagram below.

This housing is compatible with the Series 180 coil spring and since yours is stamped with a 7, you'll need the S180-7.

If the other window is the same as the first, then you would be correct. You'll need to obtain the exact weight of the sash and divide it by two.

In regard to determining if you can use the same housing, you'll need to examine your existing housing to see if there is any damage to it. Given that the springs were previously removed for one window and that you're needing to replace the springs for the other, it may be a good idea to replace all of the components at once.

I hope this helps!
