Coil balance

Question

Can you help identify these parts so that I can order them? If you can expand the photos you may be able the see numbers better.

The window is a Simonton from the year 1999.

The coil is 1/2 wide

I do not know the weight (LB) of the coil balance.

S-160 or S-165 ???

Does the coil balance come with the plastic piece and install as one assembly?

Do you recommend replacing a both (each side) at the same time?

Hi- thanks for posting!

Thanks for posting. Based on your photos, our Series 160 looks like a closer match since yours is 1/2" thick. The plastic piece is called the cover or retainer and is sold separately; when it comes to most coil springs, every individual piece is sold separately. As long as yours isn't damaged, though, there's no reason you can't reuse it.

To install this type of coil spring, you would hook the one spring in the upper hole of the pivot shoe, then hook the next spring in the square hole of the bottom spring and then reinstall the nylon cover you have. For window balances, it is recommended by the manufacturer to replace both sides with a new balance system.
