Sir - I have a problem with my sash windows in that the counter balance coils have broken. Please see photographs of the coils with the figure 8 imprinted. Is it neccessary to measure the length also or are these a standard length?

Hello,
As long as your coils measure 1/2" wide, you should be able to use the S150-8 for your repair. You can also look through the related items section on the coil balance product page to compare to any other parts you may need to replace. Thanks for posting!
