Coil balance installed 4/1911
Looks like you need a new pivot shoe. Please see our 15-192 and see if this would be a good replacement.
I ordered 2 of the 15-192s. Everything fit in the window channel and I had them all screwed in and then realized a problem. The inside of the pivot shoe is just slightly to small. When I try to set the window back in the shoe it won't go down because the plastic of the shoe sticks out on either side to much.
Is there a slightly smaller size or do I just need to sand them down?
Thanks,Ben
Thanks for getting back to us, Ben. I see what you mean. I think you might have the old Simonton brand pivot shoe. They actually don't make those anymore. If I'm right, then you can still use the Certainteed brand shoe that you purchased from us, since it's the best option on the market at the moment (in my opinion, anyway).
I've done it before doing one of two things: you could sand down the tip of your old pivot bar, like you suggested. That works fine but it's a hassle for obvious reasons. What I usually do is just re-use the metal cam from the original pivot shoes. They just sorta pop in and out if you can spread the shoe housing out with your fingers a little. All your metal cams should still be in good condition; they rarely break except in the most sever circumstances.
