Coil balance replacement

Quick Learner from Louisville, KY

I have a Simonton window #9605021430 Pat 5232208 #5.5 37". These coils are 1/2 inch wide. Simonton says they don't carry the parts anymore. Window total length is 58". only the bottom portion moves. There are two coils on each side of the window. Will I need to replace the balance shoe, tilt pins, and pivots locks? The coil balance supports pretty much disintegrate when I take them out. I'll needs those also.

I have four of these windows that need updating. I want to fix one first to make sure all goes well.

Hi there- thanks for reaching out!

We'd like to see your balance system to make sure your nylon parts, especially the pivot shoe, is intact. The coil spring from your numbers and dimensions being 1/2" wide seems to be our S160-5, but send us some photos so that we can be sure.

Thank you! Yes, your old pivot shoe looks like our 15-111, which is fully compatible with the Series 160 spring. With that in mind, plus the 1/2" thickness, I feel pretty confident that the S160-5 will work for you.

The only major difference is that ours only has a travel of 35", while you say our length is 58". Some older coil springs have been known to have a longer travel but they don't really make them this way anymore. You may need to install your balance lower in the sash in order to work. Just make sure it does not interfere with the tilt latch, which could bump into it if you install it at the wrong position.
