Coil balance replacement needed

Quick Learner from Bremerton WA
I have a coil balance on my final window that has failed. I need help in identifying and buying a replacement coil balance. There are no numbers or name on the window to tell me the manufacturer so I’m hoping the pictures I’ve included will help, there is also no easy way to uninstall and reinstall a balance without actually heating up the vinyl frame. Any help you can give me would be greatly appreciated it.

Hello there. This is a 15-087 Pivot Shoe. It works with Series 180 Coil Balance springs sold separately. To know what spring weights to pick, weigh the window sash. You can use that weight to find the right spring weights. See the first video below. As far as how to remove and replace, forming a cutout will be your best bet. The second video shows how to do this for a different but similar balance system.

Thank you very much, I'll get back with the weigh shortly.

13.6 lbs is how much it weighs, since these are older than 10 years old I think I'll skip the spreader and create a cutout at the top where the cover is.   I think it's a good idea to not only replace the coil spring but the coil housing pivot as well.   Thoughts?   thanks much Bob

Great, thanks for getting back to us. For that sash weight I recommend the 7 lb option. One on each side will give you 14 pounds of support, which should be perfect.

As for replacing the housings with the spring, it definitely couldn't hurt. I know I personally prefer a clean slate, so if it's in your budget then I say go for it.
