Coil spring balances

Question

When installing coil spring balances should the springs come off the pivot shoe toward the inside of the house or the outside? I have seen both    ways  as we have worked on the windows but I am not sure what was original. Should both sides come off on the same side ( inside or outside). My husband seems to think that one side should be toward the inside of the house and the other one toward the outside. I think they should both be on the same side. I want to know what is best before we tackle this. We have the parts.

Thanks for your patience during this busy season. I'm afraid that I don't understand your question. I'm not sure what you mean when you talk about what side the spring comes off. Are you asking about which side of the pivot shoe the spring needs to be screwed? If so, that doesn't really matter so much. Just make sure each side of the window is symmetrical. The left side should be a mirror of the right. Even that's probably not 100% necessary, it's just to cover your bases.
