Broken Locking Handle

Quick Learner from USA
I purchased the locking handle about 1 year ago. My order number is 1685962.

It broke today. Can you tell me if I need a replace part or the entire set?

The set is 82-086.

I'm sorry to hear that your 82-086 broke. These really should last longer than a year. Can you tell me exactly what broke? I don't see any visible damage in this photo.

These are pretty sturdy sets and are meant to last at least a decade. However, if other door components are malfunctioning then it could have led to failure. The mortise lock, for example, is a common issue; if the mortise isn't engaging properly, then the thumb lever could snap due to the excess strain.

That's just one example, but there could be a lot of reasons. If you go into more detail I would be happy to get to the bottom of things for you.

The shaft the goes from the key lock to the door latch seems to have bent and was jamming when I try to unlock the door. I was hoping I could just replace the shaft but I didn't see that option so I ordered a replace key lock.

That definitely sounds like it could potentially be an issue with the mortise. I would check that before you install any new hardware, just to be safe. If my assumption is right then your new key lock may very well bend the same way before long.

A good way to check is to try to manually throw the mortise lock with a screwdriver. You want to see if it gives you any resistance or hangs up at any point.
