Is there a quick and easy way to remove the old Norco 84-139 roller assembly? How do I break off that curved tab that holds it in? I finally had to resort to destroying most of the nylon insert.

The way Norco designed this screen door roller assembly, you have to hook in one side of the housing, swing up the other side with the curved tab, and snap it in.
To remove, you are correct: it seems impossible not to destroy it, unless you can depress the locking tab.

have you tried inserting an ice-pick type of device into the hole next to the roller? It looks like it should allow release of the roller without destruction.

I was able to crack the code. I inserted the point of a knife blade into the hole next the plastic roller and pushed it towards the roller with the blade sliding into the "seam". The knife blade point caught the spring catch and moved it towards the roller and released the whole roller assembly
