Cord crossed and jammed in the Balance
Somehow the cord got crossed and jammed in the balance. Right now it's stuck, and the spring and the cord is under pretty high tension. Is there a way to straighten this out, or should I just get a new balance. Everything else in the balance seems to be in working order. It's a 28 inch balance, and has 2730 stamped on it.
Thanks,
Marc
If the cord is under pretty high tension, I would not try to untwist it.
Can you send us pictures of the top and bottom fittings, as well as the clip at the end of the cord? This will allow our parts experts to recommend replacement options for you.
Thank you for the pictures. It appears that you have either a series 351 or series 390 balance.
The difference between the S351 and S390 balance lies in the shoe.
The series 351 channel balance has the 15-002 shoe while the series 390 channel balance has the 15-001 shoe.
The 15-001 shoe is 1/8" larger from front to back.
I hope you find this helpful. Please let us know if you have other questions.
Here are the pic's that you requested.
Thank you, Marc
Yes, I would round up. The shoe has probably worn down over time.
With this new information, I am confident in recommending the S390 balance for you. You can find the appropriate link for the part number you need right here. You will choose the 2730 stamp option.

I might need some parts for another window, too, my sliding window. It's very hard to slide, and probably needs new rollers. Right now, my problem is that I can't lift the window out, and remove it. It doesn't seem to clear the window frame. When the window is partially open, the right side of the window barely clears the frame, but the left does not. If I open the window all the way, the left will clear, but the right doesn't quite clear it.
I must be missing something. Any help is appreciated.

It's possible that the window is not clearing the new window stool, which sticks up about 1mm; but I'm not sure. Is it possible to start taking apart the window to get it out, without the whole thing falling apart?
First, check the top track that the sliding sash fits into. Sometimes the manufacturer screws in a top stop to prevent the sash from coming out, to prevent unwanted visitors. If the top track is cleared, then the house has settled and is pressing down on the track. Being that the clearance is close, you might be able to use a flat putty knife to slide under the sash that has cleared and work it down to the sash side that won't clear.
