Crank Mechanism for a Left Hinge Window

Handy Person from Avon, CT

Hello,

I'm trying to find a replacement for the broken window crank mechanism that a client has. I have attached a couple of pics. The window has a left side hinge.

I am hoping you are able to identify the housing and supply one for me.

Thank you,

Jeff

Hello, Jeff. I think we can help, but I can't ID what you have from this photo alone. You're only showing the base, which is the same style of base used for a dozen different operators. In order to get you the right match, I'll need you to remove this from the window and show me a photo of the whole mechanism in one shot. Let me know if that will be possible.

Hi, I will be able to do that. I will make the arrangement to remove the mechanism and take more pics.

A quick question though, can the internal mechanisms be interchanged? The reason I ask is because the only damage is to the housing.

Thank you for the quick reply!

The housing for this particular operator can't be swapped out, unfortunately. It's physically built into the operator itself. There were some older styles like this where the cover could come off, but they haven't made them like that in many, many years. It won't be possible now. Once it breaks, you need an all new operator.

Thank you for the information. I will take pics on the next few days and send them.

You're very helpful.

Here are some photos of the hearing and arms. I also tried to take some pics from beneath the mechanism. The last couple of pics are of an arm on the right hand side that shows the world "Truth" and some numbers. I hope this helps identify the manufacturer.

These pictures are a huge help, thank you. The first part you should look at is our 39-188. The design of this operator matches yours exactly, but my only concern is the length of the link arm. It's 5" on ours, and this is the only size we can provide, but I have seen some other models with 4" or even shorter. Look it over and let me know if this would be a good fit for your window.

The link arm is the arm that connects to the window? The arm with the stamping on it?

Yes, the link arm is the swivel bit on the 39-188. If you look at the image below, it's the one labelled as 5" long from elbow to tip. If the gear arm is the bicep, then the link is the forearm.

I believe the forearm is 5". See the attached pics.

Any tips on getting the slide lock to move would be appreciated!

Great, I'm glad to hear that our part is a match.

I'm not sure what you mean about a slide lock, though. Is this a new issue? If so, can you go into more detail about it?
