I'd like for you to take a look at a couple of our parts: our 32-325 long glass retainer clips in plastic and our 32-314 glass retainer clip. The 32-314 is a screw type clip. These are made of metal and the screw adjusts to the depth you need. See which of the two would make the better replacement for you.
