Thanks for reaching out to us. I'm afraid I'm not sure what qualifies this balance as being a custom order. Can you verify for me? Can you also tell me the exact weight of the sash? I've never heard of a metal tip spiral balance before, and it's definitely not something we can supply. A clear photo would help clarify that, as well.

I'm afraid only one of your photos came in, which was of the pivot shoe. The rest appear to just be black boxes, so I'm still not sure what the metal tip might have been.

All the same, An S900-31 Green Tip can hold 14 through 26 pounds, which should be perfect for your 20 pound sash. This is not a custom part and can be purchased on our site at your convenience.

Thank you for your help, Tom! I've purchased the ones you suggested. Do you have any tips on how to cover the new ones with the old vinyl cover? I'm uncertain on how to remove it from the original.

Thanks again!

If you're referring to the flat balance cover that snaps into the jamb liner, these are pried in and pried out with a screwdriver. What I do is start at the top by popping off the corner and then kind of "unzipping" it with one fluid motion down. Hopefully that makes sense.

Well, actually I meant the vinyl sleeve around the balance. It's the same color as the rest of the window. I'd like to have the new balances reveal as the same vinyl and now as metal. Am I explaining this correctly. Sure appreciate you walking me through all the correct terminology!

Oh, I see. Thanks for clarifying. You won't be able to use the old plastic tubes with the new balances, unfortunately. Balance tubes like this are only made in metal now and they replace the plastic ones entirely.

They stopped making these with vinyl tubes because of how easily they deteriorate. These are under constant sun exposure depending on what direction the window faces, so plastic tubes grow brittle very quickly, reducing the effective lifespan of the balance by a significant degree. Because they're the same size, you won't be able to put the tubes ones on top of the new tubes.
