Dead Bolt not latching

It sounds like some mechanism in the door is broken, likely the mortise. I can't say for sure though without knowing more about the hardware in use here. I'd be happy to offer better insight if you could provide photos of the lock in question, as well as a photo of every other part it interacts with. Context will be a big factor here so whatever you can show us will help.
