Depth of lock mechanism

Question

I am building a custom steel door and need to know the depth of the locking mechanism.  The distance between handles is shown but not the distance from the edge to the handle.

Hello! It sounds like you're referring to the backset. If so, the backset of the 40-183 (from the center of the hole that takes the handle to the back edge of the mortise) is 7/8".
