Does the 82-003 work for the right or the left?

i bought the sliding door handle 82-003 to replace the one that broke on my sliding door that opens to the left. the handle i received seems as though it would work on my sliding door which opens to the right, but not on the door that opens to the left. i didn't see any R/L distinction when ordering the handle. am i missing something? the handle i bought is essentially upside down if i try to install it on the door that opens to the left. please advise. thank you.
