I have a Pella storm door model 3825, 9 years old. An intense wind gust hit the door and slammed it shut really hard. Knocked the door latch out of the housing it fits in. But, it did more damage than that. The key cylinder and lock jammed, so the door wouldn't lock. In looking at the Swisco 40-194 mortise latch, I saw a small "window" behind the metal lock. Thought there must be a release in there, which was hard to see through the hole in the door.
Saw the "window" where a small vertical metal tongue shaped tab. There was a horizontal metal tab behind the vertical tab. Used a jewelers screwdriver to lift the horizontal tab up and over the vertical tab. Lock was no longer jammed and operational. Reassembled the entire handle and mortise plate and everything was just fine. Offering this suggestion up to anyone with this problem so as to avoid you calling for service, enduring a lengthy wait, and cost for trip charge and repair. Attaching a photo of the Swisco 40-194 so you can see the lock "window". The window is the first opening under the square spindle opening. Thanks, Swisco, for having a picture of the 40-194 online, with the ability to see what the other side of the mortise latch looked like !
