Thanks for reaching out! I believe the best possible replacement would be the 82-089 legacy handle set. To confirm that this will be a match, carefully review the measurements and design of the handle to your existing hardware to determine if this might be the best possible replacement. Given the hole spacing in the door, it does appear that the 82-089 should have fit as a replacement. The measurement for the top and bottom installation holes (the single holes at the very top and bottom) should be 3-15/16". You then have (4) holes in the center, the larger holes are what would typically be used to accommodate the offset latch.
However, I did notice that the out side handle is one that is typically made for a handle with a centered latch. This handle set combination isn't one we typically see.
May I please see a photo of the outside of the door as well? Also, can you please provide a detailed description of why the handle you purchased did not work with your door?
This will help to narrow down the best possible replacement solution.
