Door handle

Home Owner from Walnut Creek, CA

Hello, we have an International handle on a 70's era slider door. The exterior handle being so narrow is extremely difficult to open from the outside and this area is heavily used with the slider opened and closed multiple times a day. We'll definitely need to clean the tracks and replace rollers in the future but for now we'd like to address the handle.

If we were to purchase a duplicate interior handle could this replace the narrow exterior handle and be affixed to the exterior side of the door to make opening easier? We don't use the interior locking mechanism because an extra lock was added years ago to enable locking the door from the outside. I understand the larger handle wouldn't fit with the screen in place but we rarely use the screen so we'd simply remove it. We'd greatly appreciate any assistance you can provide. Thank you! Lexi

Hi there Lexi.

Thank you for contacting us. The handle set shown here resembles the 82-060. The installation hole center spacing for this is 3" but the problem is that we don't sell a handle set with that kind of hole center spacing that you can use for the exterior.

The best we can offer is the 82-009A for the interior and the 82-042 (sold separately) for the exterior handle. The installation hole center spacing is 4-15/16" so keep in mind that you would need to drill new holes, being very careful you don't hit the glass. Take a look at the specifications and see what you think.
