Door latch stuck in down position

Quick Learner from Los Angeles

The door latch on my sliding glass door is stuck in the down position yet the internal mechanisms that latch to the opposing door or flush inside. I've tried spraying with lubricant to no avail. I'm hoping Ann can only imagine there's somewhat of an easy fix to this, but I have yet to discover it.

Also how do you get off the square screw hole covers without destroying them. I've tried and they keep chipping and getting scraped up.

Thanks for writing in! Since you have sprayed the lock with lubricant and still cannot get it to operator properly, you'll need to replace the entire latch. Does your mortise lock extend the entire length of the door?

In regard to the handles, unfortunately, you'll need to try to pry them from the space the best way you can without chipping or scratching them. It may help to get a very thin slotted screw driver or something to wedge in the space.

Yes, it has multiple latches along the length of the door that connects to the other side of the door where it meets in the middle. So basically, there's the main latch in the center a top latch and a lower latch.

Thanks for confirming. I'm afraid we would not be able to assist with the repairs for your patio door hardware.

Unfortunately, we do not carry anything that would work to replace the mortise lock. You may have some luck contacting the manufacturer of the door or a local supplier that may carry this hardware.

I do apologize that we cannot assist with this repair.

Please let me know if there is anything else I might be able to assist with.
