Double hung bathroom window

Double hung bathroom window, need balance coil replacement, traco manufactured in 1991, are you able to provide parts

The window sash is 12 lbs, and more photos of the window jamb, if you need the parts still pulled I can do that. But maybe replace that pivot shoe, with one that is open, this one is closed which makes hard to work with.

Hello, thank you for posting,

Your balance assembly resembles the 15-087 pivot shoe that is compatible with the Series 180 coil springs. For a 12 pound window sash, you can use (1) S180-6 on each side of the window. Please review and let me know if you have any additional questions.

Unfortunately we do not carry this style of shoe with a different cam that accepts the pivot bar.

Lauren isn't here today, but I can try my best to assist.

To begin with, can you go into more detail as to exactly where you're running into issues? If it's a matter of getting the housing into the cutout, then I understand why you might be frustrated. It's a very tight fit and can be difficult even in the best of circumstances. There isn't really a trick to it besides being patience and using a little elbow grease, unfortunately. Sometimes I use a screwdriver to help pop the shoe back into place if it's being especially stubborn.

If you really can't get it in then you can try widening the cutout, but you don't want to go overboard; if the cutout is too large then you risk the shoe coming out during normal operation of the window.

I have to stress again that it's not an easy project. If you're struggling and you don't want to permanently damage the window or parts, you might want to consider contacting a professional to do it for you.

I am still having trouble getting the part in and its application of the whole install, maybe I can try another part, to replace this one like Mike used on (YouTube) on Swisco.com, his video looked easier( using the series 160 coil balance the15-150 1/2 inch standard support and the 15-111 pivot shoe) I am frustrated this is not working, I guess as the pivot shoe and pivot bar work together.

Thanks Vic

I'm not sure that the 15-111 will work as well in this window. The coil spring system works in a very different way compared to what you have now, and the pivot bars are also not compatible. It would require extensive retrofitting that would likely create more work than what's in front of you now. And even after all that, it still may not work.

Like I mentioned before, this is a difficult installation. The 15-111 isn't much different, to be perfectly honest; it has to pop into the same cutout in the jamb in the same exact way. I really don't think that would make your life any easier.

You should consider making the cutout larger. If you have already and still can't get it in, then you may want to contact a professional to do this job for you.
