Extended-Travel Balances 31-3 and 19-2

Quick Learner
I need 6 (3 pairs) 31 3 and 4 of 19 2. Length is 31.5 and the other is 19.5 for just the metal part, the plastic adds a little more length. The manufacturer is milgard and the windows were installed in 2006.

Hello,

We just sent over an order link and price quote for the custom balances you've requested. Take a look and let us know if you need anything else. Thank you!

I have a problem with the window parts we got. When we had them installed the 2 smaller windows were ok but the bigger windows don't want to stay open. The window just slides back down.
Can you help me with this?

Thank you

I'm sorry to hear that you're having trouble with the larger window. The first thing that comes to mind is that the 31 3 strength option may not be strong enough to support the weight of the window sash. If you could confirm the exact weight of the window sash, down to the ounce, that will help us determine if that is the issue. It will also confirm the correct strength option for your window. Thank you.

The old 31 3 sash weighs 11.7 oz. And the old 19 2 weighs 6.8 oz.

I'm sorry for the confusion but It sounds like you are weighing the actual balance assembly. What you need is the weight of the part of the window that goes up and down, which the balances support. If we can determine the exact weight of the sash, we can confirm if 31 3 is the correct calibration.

Home Owner
The window with 31 3 weighs 25.8 lb. The window with 19 2 weighs 20.6 lb

Thanks for getting back to us. It seems like we may have found the problem since the 31-3 stamp indicated by your original balances is only meant to support a sash weighing between 15-22 pounds. If your sash is exactly 25.8-pounds, that would indicate that you actually need balances with a 31-4 strength option to support between 22-27 pounds.

It's possible that someone may have replaced your original balances with the incorrect strength option at some point but, if that is the case, then the window using these balances should have had problems staying open from the get-go. Could you confirm if that is the case or if these balances did function well at one point? If so, this could indicate that there could be a secondary issue that needs to be looked into.
