Extended-Travel Channel Balance Quote

Channel length: 27 inches
Stamp: 26 4 GW CMC 7

One balance definitely needs replacing. But I have heard I should replace the other balance too. Therefore two needed.

Hello there. This is actually not an extended travel channel balance, but instead one of our standard non-tilt window channel balances. Specifically you either have the S380-27 or S385-27. The only difference between these two balances is the depth of the bottom nylon shoe, or the 'heel-to-toe' measurement, so compare the diagram below with your old hardware to see what matches best. In either case, choose 2640 as a new stamp option. Finally, you are correct--using an older balance alongside a new one can cause both to fail faster, so it's to your benefit to replace both at the same time. Let me know if you have further questions.

Thanks. It appears that I will need S385-27.
Stamp 2640.

I received parts today. Reluctant to try installing. New channels seem narrower. Should I go ahead and try?

I don't see any major difference between the two balances, at least not based on this photo. If there is a difference in size I don't think it will be a deal breaker; in all likelihood, your balance is probably just an older version, or made by a different manufacturer. I feel confident that our hardware will work for you.

Seems resolved except for latch at bottom to lock. Can normally get it to lock after a few tries. This started before replacing balancers. Advice?

I believe it is the "positive action lock" that now needs replacement. Unsure if the issue is the top or bottom part. Is this something easy to replace? Advice?

I'm not sure what latch that might be. This kind of window doesn't use any latch that I'm aware of, aside from the lock on the top of the sash. Would it be possible to see a photo of it?
