Extended-Travel Channel Balance Quote

Quick Learner
Channel Length for both sets is 26 5/8. Do not know who manufactured the window. I need 2 sets (2 separate windows with different weights). One weighs 19 pounds and the other weighs 12 pounds. The stamps are (26 2 BSI 00) and (26 3BSI 0B) or 08. Hard to read. I put the image in the photos.

Hello! We can supply both balances, but they'll each have to be a custom order since they don't have stock configurations. Thankfully, your photos tell me just about everything we need to get started. I just need some clarification on those stamps and weights.

Can you tell me which stamp holds which weight? According to our records, a stamp of 26-2 carries 8 through 12 pounds, which would be perfect for the 12 pound sash. However a stamp of 26-3 only holds 12 through 18 pounds, which is just shy of the 19 pound sash. That may not seem like a big difference, but it could have significant impact on how that window operates.

Did you ever find the 19 pound sash to be difficult to open? Did it ever drift close on its own? You may want to consider moving up to 26-4, which holds 18 through 25 pounds. That more comfortably holds your sash weight, but on the other hand the original installers may have had a good reason to use the 26-3. If your window has worked fine all these years without issue, it may be a bad idea to change things.

It's ultimately up to you. Let me know which option you want to go with and we can work from there.

We calculated the weight of the window by standing on the scale holding the window, so we are likely off on the weight by a small amount.  We have several windows that are the same measurement and likely have the same part.  If going up in the weight will help the windows lift better or easier, then that sounds like a good idea since we are at the top of the weight recommendation for the balance mechanism.  What do you suggest?

Hi, We prefer to stay with the 26-3.  Thank you.  Can you tell us the cost for 2 sets of the 26-2 and 1 set for the 26-3?  Several of our windows that need the 26-2 are not working well so we would like 2 sets in that size.  Thank you

Okay, sounds good to me. You definitely don't want to go up to a stronger weight without good cause; a window whose balance is too strong for the sash will be much harder to close, and could even open on its own. If your window was working fine with these balances through all these years, it's probably best to stick with the calibration.

I'll go ahead and email you a purchase link and price quote now for four of the 26-2 and two of the 26-3, as requested. If you wanted to make any changes, just let me know here and I'd be happy to do so.
