The thumb lever does not contain the lock. It only includes what you see on its store page, linked above.

As for how you know, that's difficult to answer. I can only judge the condition of your handle based on your photos, and based on your photos all I see is a missing lever. If you suspect something else is broken, you need to carefully examine the handle to verify.
