Fleetwood 1980 patio door handle/lock.

Hi Swisco,

Is this one-sided (indoor side only) Fleetwood handle with integrated sliding lock still available or is there a replacement I can use? It is for a sliding window that matches our other Fleetwood sliding doors though it does not have a handle on the outside since the opening does not go all the way to the floor (as the sliding glass doors do). Hey Ken. This is a curious setup, with sliding glass door hardware on a sliding window! I'm afraid I don't entirely recognize the handle, but we still may be able to help. Can you tell me the distance between the center of each mounting hole on the handle? And can you show me a clearer picture of the lock in the frame the handle interfaces with? From there we may be able to narrow down some options for you.

Hi Bob,

The handle is 6" top to bottom. The handle screws are 4" apart. The silver lock mechanism screws are 3.75" apart and the silver part is 3" in height.

The window opening is 68" high and 90" wide with 1/2 movable. I was told these were commercial Fleetwood doors circa 1980-1982.

The lock worked by moving the 1" aluminum and plastic piece up and down. The metal under the plastic piece broke off.

Thanks for getting back to us. We definitely don't sell a good option for this, but based on the provided specifications I do wonder if our 82-030 could work as an alternative. This has a hole spacing of 3-15/16" (measured from the center of each hole) and is commonly used with mortise locks like what you show here.

My only concern here is the hole spacing; I would check to make sure that yours isn't 3-15/16" instead of 4". Also note that the 82-030 thumb lever has a flat "tail." This is what intersects with the mortise lock. As long as your existing handle has the same kind of "tail" then it should still be functional despite its difference in design.

Hi Bob, Thank you for you efforts. I will remeasure the hole spacing and pull the handle to see what kind of tail I need. I do not have an outer handle and wonder if this new one will work and screw in without drilling through to the other side of the door. I will reconfirm hole distance and centers with you first.

Bob you are correct (not surprisingly) the hole spacing is 3 15/16. The tail is also flat. Again it does not have an outside handle so can I use my old screws since a through the entire door screw will not work? Also the flat metal connection to the mortise may be too long. The doors are 1 3/16 thick outer to outer.

I have also included my normal Fleetwood sliding door handle than could surely use an update:) It appears the mortise is the same as my sliding window and it has a bolt through hand-on-both-sides design like the one you are suggesting.

It also looks like you Mortise Lock, Round Face, 3-11/16" Product Code: 82-218 is the same as mine.

1. I would like to try the 82-030 for the window if you feel it work work.

2. To replace my 4 Fleetwood bolt through handles do you have a design that has an inside handle and smaller outside pull that will not get in the way of the screen? Will the 82-030 handle interfere with a screen door? Thank you for your help.

Thank you for this new date, this is a huge help! I was hoping that this would be the case. Given the new information, I feel more confident than ever that our 82-030 is what you want. This comes with its own installation screws, too, so there's no reason to worry about that. I also agree that our 82-218 matches the old mortise, but yours can be reused as long as its functional.

As for the outer handle, the one that comes with our 82-030 may indeed interfere with your screen door. The bad news is that we don't have a lot of options that would work around that. We did sell a flat exterior pull at one time, but it's been discontinued for about 4 years now. If it does end up getting in the way, your best option may be to reuse the original exterior pull.

Bob thank you for your help. I will likely order one of the handles so I can see if it will work in either case (the sliding window or full sliding door).
