Frequency of Springs Breaking

A quick learner from Torrington CT says:
Has anything been done to improve the quality of the spring? It is the weak point in the design and they break frequently. Also most of my windows are 70-72" tall and they have never slid without a lot of effort (binding). Any reason why and how can I adjust or correct this?

Paul from SWISCO responded:

Many thanks for your correspondence. For Peachtree windows, binding might be causing the window balances to break more frequently. The binding might be caused by the window not being installed plumb, or the master frames are slightly twisted. Try spraying the tracks with silicone to see if that helps in the binding. You might want to contact a Peachtree dealer to see if they can spot the problem.
