Thanks for reaching out. It would help greatly to make the cutout larger so that you can easily access the hardware. However, you should be able to snake the parts out of the slot.
This is not an easy task but it is possible. You will need to use your discernment in making the cutouts so that you maintain the integrity of the window in regard to the stop plate.
Since your original assembly has the coil pivot housing as well as the tandem housing, it is likely your assembly will need two coils.
You'll need to take a look at the stamps on both coils to determine what coils you would need in the window. If you are uncertain, your best bet would be to obtain the window weight and divide it by the number of coils in the window. That will give you the spring strength you'd need for both sides of the window.
