The piece is a white plastic piece that broke on the side of the window that covers the metal bar inside the window. The metal piece no longer is hidden and stays up even window the window is closed.
The window no longer works correctly very difficult to open close. On other windows the piece is not broken, but very difficult to open close.

It sounds like your window balances are broken, which caused the plastic balance cover to break. I would be happy to help you find replacements, but I will need to see a few pictures of your hardware. Let me know!

Thank you! Yes, I thought as much. Looks like the top sash guide that's screwed on the window sash has broken, which let the balance shoot up. You need to force down the broken balance and flip up the take out clip so you can remove the sash and install a new top sash guide. Please look at our video on side load balances to see how to replace balance.

This was an extremelyvaluable video. I had the same problem with the window balance being stuck in the up position. I was able to fix it by following the video. Thank you very much! I have two questions: 1) How can I fine the manufacturer of this window? It's about 23 years old. 2) the window grids are stick on. Do you have replacements for those?

Thank you! I'm glad that you found our video helpful.
As for the manufacturer, the sticker you show here looks like it might have a clue. The relevant mark here is where it says "MFR CODE," but I can't quite make out the letters that come after that. Those letters usually indicate who made the window and in many cases I can cross-reference exactly what they mean. If you can tell me what that reads, I'll see if we have a record of it.
As for window grids, that is unfortunately not something that we sell for any brand window. I apologize for the inconvenience.
