We just bought a home in Decatur, TN with "Better Bilt" tilt windows. They are very hard to open like the Spiral balances need lube. Can you lube or should you lube them. TNX

After a few years, it's not a bad idea to clean and add new grease to spiral balances. You will want to use grease that will stick onto the spiral. As long as you use grease that sticks on the spiral, this is not a process that you will need to perform often. I'd recommend stopping by a local mom-and-pop hardware store so that they can recommend a grease that will perform well since we do not carry anything for this type of application.
If these are older windows with original hardware, there is a good chance that the balances need to be replaced and that greasing them may not solve the problem. If that is the case, we would need to see your balance assembly removed from the window, as well as confirm the housing tube length and diameter, to compare to our inventory.
