Having trouble with the

Home Owner from USA
Hi, Thanks for any help you can give me.

Double hung vinyl replacement windows installed in very old home, unknown age or even brand of replacement window, no markings. Top sash drops when unlocked. A spring is attached by screw and plastic piece at top of window, the lower end attached to plastic part which holds a string. String runs to small U shaped plastic piece attached to lock/tilt mechanism. A plastic rod is contained inside the spring. The plastic pieces are dried and brittle from age and summer heat.

Thank you for any help you can offer,

Thanks for contacting us. This is an old Series 870 arrow balance. Take a look and see what you think.

This type of balance is under a limited supply and won't be around forever, however our Series 770 works great as a replacement. If you go that route, just make sure to replace both balances on either side of the window at the same time. That way, your window will function properly with its new hardware.

Thank you very much. Would I go with the 770 Series the same length as the plastic rod?

No, you need to measure an undamaged Arrow balance. You want to measure the complete length. That should correspond well to the replacement Series 770 channel balance.
